If I lived in NYC I would have voted for Lander. My hope is that his support will help win the general election but that isn't a foregone conclusion. What progressive 'upstart' candidates don't seem to have learned yet is that an election isn't the finish line, it's the starting line. After winning the election you have to be able to govern — and that is more than putting out highly attractive fantasy policies (free transportation, free childcare, free college education, etc.) that will be funded by fantasy dollars (taxes on billionaires, taxes on wealth, taxes on stock trades) if you don't have the political resources to make good on your and your voters' fantasies. Oh ... and the answer isn't in the vacuous 'center' filled with fantasies of 'abundance'.

We've been here before. The air quickly went out of the Clinton balloon in 1993. It quickly went out of the Obama balloon in 2009. It quickly went out of the Biden balloon in 2021. None of them were able to put together an enduring and growing governing majority that enjoyed broad and growing public support. All were forced into a defensive battles against a reactionary Republic party to conserve at least a part of the legacy of the New Deal and the Great Society.
