The only bummer in this election is that they are BOTH awesome and deserve to win. TX will be the loser locally, and the country will lose from not having both.

Crockett should put her weight behind Talarico.

Really good conversation!

I really struggle with "electability" for the exact reasons stated - it systematically discriminates against women and people of color (and queer folks).

And yet there's a compelling case that Trump is a lagging reaction to Obama's election, triggering white male Christian replacement rage. We've run two incredibly strong female candidates, one Black, and lost.

These aren't games, the stakes are literal life and death. I have never heard so many Americans say that they think the government will kill them. No drama or hyperbole, just a quiet statement of looming death at the hands of our government. As has already happened for 73 people who ICE killed*.

Given the stakes, I'm just not inclined for moral purity. America is so drenched in misogyny and racism, and we all feel it rising around us. I just don't have faith in my fellow Americans. A bland white man (and behind him a staff of furious smart everyone else) seems like our only hope. I wish that weren't true, but fool me twice and I'm gonna learn.

That said, I'm not Texan, and I'll cheer whichever Democrat wins.
